Clicking on the Film Canister in the lower left corner of the screen opens a slide-out menu. You can use the slide-out menu to navigate within Volcanoes.
You can use the number keys on your keyboard to adjust the audio volume. Number "0" provides the lowest volume, number "9" the highest.
Within the Reference Index, press a letter key on your keyboard to skip to the first entry that starts with that letter. You may also use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the index.
When a Reference article is open, the left and right arrow keys will turn pages. To close a Reference article, click on the close icon next to the title.
You may use the left and right arrow keys to move backward and forward within the Episodes or SlideShow.
SOFTWARE TIPS:
Do not remove the CD-ROM disc from your computer while running Volcanoes.
Volcanoes may take 10 seconds or more to launch. For this reason, don't double click the icon a second time.
For optimal performance, your computer display should be set to 256 colors before running Volcanoes. You can change this setting in Windows 3.x by running the Windows SETUP program and choosing "Change Systems Settings" under the "Options" menu, or in Windows 95, select Control Panel, Display, Settings. Your video card might have its own control panel such as the ATI Flexdesk+ control panel. If so, use this specialized control panel instead of the Windows SETUP program.
We recommend quitting all other programs in Windows, and turning off all screen savers before running Volcanoes. This will free up as much memory as possible and ensure correct playback. Avoid switching to other programs while viewing Volcanoes.
Volcanoes requires at least a 6 MB Windows permanent swapfile, but works best with a swapfile twice the size of your RAM (16 MB or more). If you need to adjust the swapfile size in Windows 3.1, run the Enhanced applet inside the Windows Control Panel and change the setting in the Virtual Memory option. In Windows 95, go to the Control Panel and double click System, then click the Performance tab to change the Virtual Memory. NOTE: If you are using a disk compression utility such as Drivespace or Doublespace, you must make sure that you set the swapfile to the uncompressed (host) drive.
Performance may be increased by turning off CD caching. You can do this by using the /U parameter in the SMARTDRIVE entry in your autoexec.bat file. See the example below:
LH /L:0 C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE /U 2048 128
Volcanoes will not run on computers using WATCHDOG, or any other software that write-protects the WINDOWS sub-directory. Volcanoes will not create permanent files in your WINDOWS sub-directory, but it will create a temporary file called DIRDIB.DRV while running.
You may experience problems running Volcanoes while running virus protection software such as Command Software System's F-Prot.
HARDWARE TIPS:
If you have an ATI Mach 64 Graphics Accelerator card, set DeviceBitmaps=OFF in the Windows SYSTEM.INI file [MACH] section after card software installation. Also choose Small font, 256 Color Palette On, and Dithering Control Off in the Advanced settings of the Flexdesk+ control panel in the ATI Desktop.

-256 colors (preferably at 640x480 pixel resolution)

-Microsoft Windows 3.1 (Runs on Windows 95)
